CM Punk sent out a tweet this week stating that he would have liked to talk to legendary Professional Wrestler, Gorilla Monsoon.
Former WWE Champion CM Punk retired from in ring competition in 2014, controversially walking out of WWE prior to a Monday Night Raw. However, he continues to be one of the most popular figures in Professional Wrestling.
Punk, who goes by ‘player/coach’ on Twitter and describes himself as “Straight edge. Sweetheart. No Facebook”, took to social media voicing his wish to talk to Monsoon, a decorated WWE Hall of Famer who passed away in 1999.
I wish Gorilla Monsoon was alive. I’d like to talk to him.

During his Professional Wrestling career, Gorilla Monsoon was best known as a heel figure, feuding with legendary performers such as Bruno Sammartino and Superstar Billy Graham.
Retiring from in ring competition in the 1980’s, Monsoon would go on to become a legendary commentator in WWE, teaming with the likes of Jesse Ventura and Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan. In modern day WWE, the backstage production area is named the ‘Gorilla Position’, in honour of Monsoon.
Responding to the tweet, one fan replied, “At Least You Can Still Talk To Jesse”, in reference to Jesse Ventura, to which Punk remarked:
“Had a great convo with him back when he hosted raw. Somewhere in PA.”
CM Punk also mentioned wrestling promotor Phil Zacko who, along with Monsoon, was one of the part owners of Capitol Sports. The promotion is notable for becoming World Wrestling Council, the promotion in which Bruiser Brody was fatally stabbed by fellow wrestler José González in 1988.
