CM Punk Wins In Second-Ever WWE Match Type; To Challenge For World Title

CM Punk berated a champion on WWE SmackDown

CM Punk is all set to challenge for the World title.

Tonight, during the 14th July episode of Raw, fans witnessed five participants compete in a Gauntlet match to decide the challenger for Gunther’s World Championship at the upcoming 2025 SummerSlam PLE.

Starting first into the match, Bron Breakker faced off against Penta, and defeated him within the next few minutes, to enter the second round of the match. As Penta walked out, fans saw LA Knight run down the ramp for his chance to earn a World title shot. However, Breakker would also ram down Knight to qualify himself in the third round of the match.

Fresh off his two victories, fans then witnessed Breakker clash against a fresh Jey Uso. However, despite the two exchanging spears and a few close pinfall attempts, the former Intercontinental Champion would hit a final spear to keep Uso down and qualify for the final round against CM Punk.

Despite emerging as the ‘Iron Man’ of the match, Breakker failed to win the final round as a relatively fresh CM Punk fended off the interference from Bronson Reed, to drop Breakker with the GTS, and book his SummerSlam match against Gunther.

Tonight marked Punk’s second-ever Gauntlet match in Raw, with the first one dating back to 2011. Despite his lack of experience in this particular sect of match, Punk’s entrance as the last participant helped him secure the victory over a tired Breakker. To close the show, The Second City Saint exchanged a glance with Gunther before being ambushed by Breakker and Reed.

However, as the duo was about to finish off Jey Uso and Punk, the long-absent Tribal Chief Roman Reigns made his much-awaited return, and cleared the house for everyone.

Dominik Mysterio Opens Up On CM Punk’s WrestleMania 41 Main Event Spot

Earlier this year, while speaking to The Wrestling Classic on Casual Conversations, Dominik Mysterio explained the lengths CM Punk had to go to before receiving his WrestleMania 41 main event spot.

“I think we just both mutually hate each other, equally. I fucking hate CM Punk. I don’t know what it is about that guy. I don’t know if it’s because he looks like Eddie Munster and I want to kick him in the fucking face, or the fact that everyone is like, ‘He finally did it, he finally got his WrestleMania main event.’ Good for you, old man. 60 years old, it took you what, 45 years to accomplish your one goal? It’s about time.

It’s what they say about babies. When they have tantrums, you give them what they want so they shut the fuck up. I’m pretty sure that’s what happened. That’s why he needed a favor from Paul Heyman.

There is a reason he was never in the main event. You call yourself the Best in the World. I don’t need to go around calling myself the Best in the World. People know I’m better than the best. I don’t need to call myself Best in the World at 70 years old. People do it for me. You have [John] Cena talking about me, JBL, AJ Styles, legends talking about me. I don’t need to do it for myself or say these things about me because people say it for me. My work speaks for itself. Here you go with CM Punk. I could go on this rant forever but I need to stop myself.”
