CM Punk – “We’re Not Competing With SummerSlam”

CM Punk on AEW Collision

CM Punk has hit back at suggestions AEW Collision is competing against WWE.

On August 5th, AEW Collision will go up against WWE SummerSlam with both airing at the same time. This has led to claims from fans that the two sides will be competing against each other once again. Despite this, CM Punk has emphasised that the stars of Collision are only competing against themselves.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Punk said the situation is no different to when Collision goes up against UFC or college football.

“We are not competing with SummerSlam,” says Punk. “We are going to go up against college football soon. We have already been up against monster UFC cards every single Saturday. We are not competing with them. We are competing with what we did last Saturday. I am competing with who I was yesterday as a human being and a pro wrestler, and we, as the Collision team, are competing with what we did last Saturday. That’s always going to be what we are striving to do, and I think that’s an important message for the fans to understand.”

Have CM Punk And The Elite Resolved Their Issues?

In recent days Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks, and Hangman Adam Page all signed new multi-year deals with AEW. This led to rumours that the problems between The Elite and Punk might have been resolved or at least calmed to a significant degree. However, it seems that this isn’t the case.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted “significant issues” remain between CM Punk and The Elite.

On Collision, CM Punk will meet Ricky Starks for the “real” World Championship.
