If CM Punk had a fail safe in WWE, he was rumored to have a WrestleMania idea on his agenda.

According to a new report from Fightful Select, CM Punk wasn’t against moving on from AEW after All Out 2022 and even encouraged such a notion with a desire to appear at the 2023 Royal Rumble.

While not confirmed by Punk or those close to him, his idea was to appear in the Royal Rumble match and get eliminated by somebody in particular, leading to a WrestleMania 39 match between the two – the name going around those at WWE was Kevin Owens. Punk would go on to main event the first night at WrestleMania

CM Punk Stayed Put And Kevin Owens Still Main-Evented WrestleMania 39

Those plans for CM Punk never came to fruition, but Kevin Owens still got to main event the first night of WrestleMania 39. During WrestleMania season, Owens and Zayn ended up building a major feud against The Usos with Owens being the Doubting Thomas in the alliance as Sami showed his allegiance one too many times with The Bloodline. The two ultimately reunited as friends and battled Jimmy & Jey night one of WrestleMania. Zayn and Owens challenged The Usos for The Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships and then won them in memorable fashion, further showing fraction within The Bloodline.

CM Punk had a little more of waiting period to make his return to pro wrestling television as he finally came back in June in the debut of AEW Collision.
