CM Punk Undergoes Surgery Following Injury At AEW All Out

CM Punk has undergone surgery after suffering an injury at AEW All Out on September 4th, the star will be out of action until well into 2023.

Prior to one of the most remarkable wrestling press conferences in recent years, CM Punk went to war in the main event of AEW All Out.

Roared on by his hometown Chicago crowd a bloodied Punk eventually saw off Jon Moxley following a third GTS. As the show went off the air, Punk was confronted by a returning MJF who had earlier won the Casino Ladder match in surreal circumstances while hidden under a mask.

However, in amongst the backstage chaos, it quickly came to light that the new champion had sustained an injury during the main event. Initial reports suggested that the injury was a triceps issue which could see the star miss a number of months.

It has now been reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Punk has undergone surgery and will be out for around eight months.

“CM Punk underwent surgery earlier this week for the torn left triceps he suffered when doing the tope early in the Jon Moxley match. That is usually about an eight month recovery period. His doctor recommended surgery right away to prevent any muscle atrophy.”

After CM Punk’s victory the star appeared at a post-show media scrum where he took aim at Colt Cabana, the Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Hangman Adam Page. Once he headed backstage a fight erupted which saw punches and chairs thrown. The end result is a number of suspensions, while Punk was stripped of the World Title and Omega and the Young Bucks were stripped of their Trios Titles.

A tournament to crown a new champion is already underway, and the winner will be crowned at AEW Grand Slam on September 21st. Meanwhile, Death Triangle claimed the Trios Titles on the September 7th episode of Dynamite.
