CM Punk Trolls Jon Moxley, Teases Return To Independent Wrestling

CM Punk Jon Moxley

CM Punk hasn’t been seen in AEW since the night he regained the AEW World Championship from Jon Moxley at All Out.

Punk originally won the championship in May of 2022 at Double or Nothing, but days later, he announced that he would need to take a hiatus from the company due to injury. In his absence, a tournament was held to crown an interim champion, and Jon Moxley emerged victorious, capturing gold in the promotion a second time.

When Punk finally returned to television the following August, fans were in for a shock when he and Moxley agreed to a title unification match on the August 24th episode of Dynamite. The surprises continued when Moxley was able to defeat Punk in a matter of minutes, with Punk selling his previous leg injury.

Though Punk regained his title at All Out just over a week later, his second championship win was overshadowed by his verbal tirade at the media scrum following the event that led to a brawl between himself and the AEW EVP’s. Everyone involved in the brawl was suspended, but despite The Elite returning at Full Gear in November, Punk has yet to appear.

Despite reportedly making progress in talks to return, a now-deleted Instagram story renewed tensions between Punk and All Elite Wrestling. His post referenced Moxley wanting the feud between the two of them to resemble Rocky III, an idea that Punk said “sucked” while admitting he’s never seen a Rocky movie.

Now, Punk is making waves on social media yet again as he took to his Instagram stories once more and posted two images. The first is a humorously photoshopped image of his face on the body of Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky, specifically from Rocky III.

The second Instagram story is a photo of a Bingo hall with balloons spelling “WELCOME” underneath a scoreboard. With rumors that Punk wants to return to wrestling but is open to wrestling elsewhere if he doesn’t reach a deal with AEW, this post adds fuel to the fire that he may be seeking a return to independent wrestling, which is often held in Bingo halls and gymnasiums.
