CM Punk has looked back on helping Miro when he made his debut on the main roster of WWE at the Royal Rumble in 2014.
Miro, then known as Alexander Rusev, entered the match at number six while CM Punk was still in the ring. In an interview on ‘Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette‘, Punk recalled speaking to the future TNT Champion before the match and telling him that he should make the most of it and have his “moment”.
“Miros like a different dude. Yeah, I mean, he beat me up in my last match in the Royal Rumble. That was his debut. I remember grabbing him and being like, ‘Alright look, man, you’re debuting, what do you want to do?’ And he was like, I don’t know, I’ll get you in a corner and I’ll beat you up?’ I was like, ‘No, no. I’m like, the biggest name in that ring. You got to hit me with some big stuff. Yeah.’ And he’s like, ‘Oh, really?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, go have your moment. Please like, get your moment.’
Punk also touched on the fact that while Miro started on the WWE main roster at that year’s Royal Rumble, it was also the ‘Best in the World’s’ last event for the company, as he left WWE following the event. He also believes ‘The Redeemer’ is a different guy now that he’s joined the AEW roster.
And yeah, and he started and I left and now we’ve both gone somewhere new, so he’s like a different guy lately.
CM Punk will compete in his first wrestling match for almost seven years when he faces Darby Allin at AEW All Out. At the same event, Miro will defend the TNT Championship against Eddie Kingston.
