CM Punk looks set to be a significant part of WrestleMania 41 next year.
Following his return to WWE at Survivor Series 2023, many expected Punk to be a major part of WrestleMania 40, potentially against then-World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. Unfortunately, due to Punk suffering an injury in his return match at the Royal Rumble, the Chicago native was unable to compete at the biggest show of the year. Despite this, Punk served as special announcer in the match between Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins, which planted the seed for his feud of the year with McIntyre.
With Punk now cleared to compete, the former World Champion is already looking ahead to WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas and hopes to be in a marquee match, According to a new report, his wish may be granted.
Speaking about Punk on the Backstage Pass podcast, WrestleVotes stated that Punk looks set for a World Championship match at Mania, specifically the World Heavyweight Championship:
“I’ve heard so many things on Punk, especially as of late with the Roman [Reigns] stuff being thrown in there. But the one main factor that I’ve heard almost all year is they want him [Punk] to be involved in a World Title match. I don’t know how the puzzle pieces are going to fit, but they want him at the top. I don’t think it’ll be with Cody [Rhodes], so that’s one title match out the window. Does he fit into the other one? I’m going to say yes at this point.”
At the time of writing, Gunther currently reigns as the World Heavyweight Champion following his latest retention at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Despite this, WrestleVotes remains doubtful that Gunther vs. Punk will be the WrestleMania match:
“I don’t think it’ll be GUNTHER, Bill [Apter], that’s the thing. I don’t think it’s Punk and GUNTHER. So if they want him involved with the title, then what do you do with GUNTHER?”
Due to the World Title being involved and the Undisputed Championship set to main event night 2, Punk may finally get his WrestleMania main event on night 1.
CM Punk To Compete On WWE TV For First Time In Over A Decade
Following his return to WWE, Punk has only competed on Premium Live Events, most recently inside WarGames at Survivor Series. This is set to change soon as the long-awaited CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins match has finally been made official.
In other WWE news, one member of the roster may have suffered an injury in a dark match.
