CM Punk Set To Be Out Until Well Into 2023

CM Punk AEW Champion

A new report has claimed that CM Punk is set for an extended period on the side-lines and won’t be back back in the ring before the end of the year.

Ahead of the September 7th edition of AEW Dynamite the wrestling world waited with baited breath. Just days removed from an incident where AEW’s World Champion ended up brawling with three of the promotion’s Executive Vice President’s everyone wanted to know what happens next.

As it turns out, what came next was two championships being vacated to go along with the list of suspensions that had been revealed earlier that day.

The end result is that CM Punk is no longer the AEW World Champion, and Death Triangle are the new AEW World Trios Champions. However, regardless of the situation around Punk and his future with the company, it appears that he would have been forced to vacate his title anyway, even without his post-All Out media scrum outburst.

While it had been noted that Punk suffered an injury during his match against Jon Moxley at All Out, details on the injury have been scarce. Although it has now been reported that Punk will require surgery and will be out of action for a lengthy period.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported Punk could be out for as long as eight months.

“He may have already undergone surgery, but either way he’s undergoing surgery. It was not confirmed to me it was a torn triceps, but it was confirmed to me that it’s surgery for a torn muscle in the arm, so it’s triceps/biceps, maybe pec, but probably triceps. And that’s usually about an eight-month recovery period. So he was gonna be stripped of the title either way (regardless of the fight).

“Punk’s out for eight months, or whatever it’s going to be, six months/eight months, whatever. If he’s not let go. And a lot of people don’t want him back.”

Meltzer also noted that the investigation into the events which followed the media scrum at All Out is still ongoing. It is claimed that after Punk’s verbal assault on The Elite and Hangman Page, the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega confronted the star. Punches were allegedly thrown, while Punk’s friend Ace Steel threw a chair and ended up biting Omega.
