CM Punk Reportedly Wanted By AEW As Far Back As Last Year

CM Punk

With rumours swirling around CM Punk returning to the wrestling ring as part of All Elite Wrestling, a new report has shed more light on the talks between Punk and AEW.

It was first reported by Fightful Select that former WWE Champion CM Punk was looking to end his seven-year hiatus from wrestling by joining AEW. Punk has not wrestled since the 2014 Royal Rumble, famously walking out of WWE the very next night.

Now Fightful Select has issued a new update on the situation with Punk and AEW. The new report states that they first heard about Punk’s talks with the company early in the week beginning the 19th of July. It is also noted that the talks were a closely guarded secret however it came to light that other media sources had become aware of the news seemingly to a greater degree than either Punk or AEW knew.

The report goes on to say that AEW’s interest in CM Punk dates back to 2020 although they cannot confirm if formal conversations between Punk and AEW took place at that juncture. AEW’s stars had reportedly not heard about Punk potentially joining the company as recently as a couple of months ago although the Straight Edge Saviour has now been the topic of much conversation with those that have never worked with him seemingly asking how he is to work with.

One former colleague of CM Punk has given his thoughts on exactly what he was like to work with. Former WWE star Heath Slater recently stated that Punk could “sometimes be an a**hole.”

Punk is not the only former WWE Champion seemingly destined to become All Elite. Daniel Bryan has also recently been reported to be connected with AEW, with some saying that Bryan has already inked his deal with the company.
