CM Punk is reportedly in talks over a potential return to the ring.
The new report from Fightful Select notes that AEW will most likely be Punk’s destination should the talks lead to the former world champion making a comeback.
Fightful add that while there is no confirmation over a contract being signed, a timetable for a return or any kind of creative plans, they can confirmed Punk has been speaking to a company about a return. Punk has also reportedly been the subject of interest from companies other than AEW since fans have begun to return to shows across the board.
The report goes on to say that WWE believe that Punk is AEW bound.
Fightful has not officially confirmed this report with CM Punk himself or All Elite Wrestling officials. We have been told in recent days that higher ups in WWE believe that Punk is headed to AEW.
CM Punk hasn’t wrestled since the 2014 Royal Rumble and his subsequent departure from WWE. The former world champion later tried his hand at Mixed Martial Arts, losing both contests in UFC. However, the latter of these has since been overturned.
As recently as April Punk poured cold water on rumours that he may ever return to the ring saying that
wrestling wasn’t his world anymore.
CM Punk’s wrestling career began back in late 1990’s with the Chicago native later signing with Ring Of Honor in 2002. Following a now legendary run with the promotion, Punk signed with WWE in 2005. The straight edge star went on to win the Money In The Bank ladder match twice, the Intercontinental Championship as well as multiple world titles before an acrimonious split from the company in 2014.
