CM Punk Explains His Relief At Tony Khan Buying ROH

CM Punk

Former WWE Champion CM Punk says he is relieved that Tony Khan bought Ring Of Honor as he doesn’t want Vince McMahon owning any more of his footage.

Tony Khan promised a huge announcement on the 2nd of March edition of AEW Dynamite and he delivered when he revealed that he had purchased Ring Of Honor.

ROH’s future was under a great deal of uncertainty after the company announced a hiatus beginning after the Final Battle show in December 2021. The company does have a Supercard show scheduled for early April but beyond that, what happens with the brand under Khan’s management is still relatively unclear.

Now speaking at a post-AEW Revolution media scrum, CM Punk has discussed what it means to him for Ring Of Honor to not be in the hands of WWE and Vince McMahon:

“I was relieved because obviously, let’s talk facts, either Tony was gonna buy it or Vince was gonna buy it. I don’t want Vince to own any of my footage, he owns enough of it. He owns enough of it and I don’t get paid off of it.”

“People need to understand that when I left I was asking questions about the [WWE] Network which had not been launched yet. I was asking how am I gonna get paid off this? We don’t even understand what the pay scale is, I don’t know if I get paid off the gate for a pay-per-view, off the buy-rate for a pay-per-view, you guys already just throw darts at an imaginary board and you pay me whatever you want.”

“I still get royalties, that’s the only hard copy I see from the DVD sales and once DVDs go away, you’re just putting stuff up on the Network, I’m not getting paid. Or am I? Tell me, let’s talk about it. They couldn’t tell me and now I’ve watched my royalty cheques which I still get dwindle to nothing because they just put everything on the Network and the boys don’t get paid. Not just me, that’s everybody. That’s criminal.”

CM Punk also commented on his love for WWE Hall Of Famer Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart and says he’d give up his second chance in wrestling if it meant Hart could have his.
