AEW Star CM Punk has commented on Cody Rhodes return to WWE at WrestleMania 38.
CM Punk made his return to the world of professional wrestling on the ‘First Dance’ edition of AEW Rampage in August 2021. Punk had been gone from the ring for seven long years following a falling out with WWE which saw him walk out on the company after the 2014 Royal Rumble.
Following Punk’s in AEW, one highly anticipated match among fans would be to see him take on three-time TNT Champion Cody Rhodes. However, the bout never came, and in February 2022 Rhodes announced his departure from the company he helped create.
Now, after weeks of rumours and speculation following his decision to leave AEW, ‘The American Nightmare’ has returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38.
After the show, CM Punk took to Twitter to say that he was happy for Rhodes as well as a host of other wrestling stars including Steve Austin, Edge, and Sting – but not Eddie Kingston.
“Happy for Kev. Happy for Cody. VERY happy for Steve. Also happy for Sting. Happy for myself. Happy for Bryan. This isn’t controversial. F**k Eddie Kingston. Oh, happy for Edge!”

At WrestleMania 38, Cody Rhodes was revealed to be Seth Rollins’ mystery opponent. The two went on to have a barnstormer of a match where they put everything on the line. In the end, it was Rhodes who emerged the victor after three Cross Rhodes and a Bionic Elbow in honour of his father, Dusty Rhodes.
Cody has since spoken about his reasons for returning to the company after six years away, saying it was the “easiest decision” he’s ever made.
