CM Punk is the name on everyone’s lips in the wrestling world at the minute but now the former WWE Champion has given his view on the current WWE product.
Rumours have been swirling in recent weeks that Punk is on the verge of a monumental move to All Elite Wrestling, ending his seven-year exile from the wrestling ring. These reports gathered more steam after AEW announced AEW Rampage: The First Dance was set to take place on August 20th in Punk’s hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Tickets for that show sold out in mere minutes after going on general release as the fans that roared him on at Money In The Bank in 2011 look to do so again.
Punk did return to the wrestling sphere of sorts when he worked as an analyst on WWE Backstage but that job was provided by FOX rather than WWE.
Speaking as a guest on Sunday Night’s Main Event, CM Punk gave his view on the current product in WWE, noting that he had to keep up with it so he could do his job on the FOX show but otherwise he’s not tuning in:
“No, I had to watch it a little bit when I was an analyst for FOX. But I mean… hmm, how do I say this diplomatically? Um, no, I think they’ve got some people who are super awesome and great in the ring, but you know, nothing grabs me to get me to want to watch.”
“I’m getting a little long in the tooth now. And I would much rather uplift and show love to things I like than to tear anything down. You know, you can’t say that what they’re doing is wrong. They are the most profitable they’ve ever been since their inception, so who am I to say… you know what I mean? Like… it’s ice cream, there’s 31,000 flavours, everybody gets their favourite, I just don’t like vanilla.”
During the conversation, Punk confirmed he does have plans to be in Chicago on the night of AEW Rampage on the 20th of August, but he might have other plans rather than turning up at the United Center.
