CM Punk Lists The Best 3 Matches From His Career

CM Punk Lists The Best 3 Matches From His WWE Career

CM Punk has named which 3 matches from his WWE career he holds in the highest regard.

During his first run in the company, Punk had a number of notable rivalries that certified him as a main event talent and one of the most popular stars on the entire roster. Having previously stepped in the ring with the likes of The Rock, Chris Jericho, John Cena and The Undertaker, The Best in the World has been frequently matched up with some of the best of all time.

While appearing on No Contest Wrestling with O’Shea Jackson Jr. and TJ Jefferson, Punk was asked to pick the 3 matches he believes are his greatest. Beginning with a match against John Cena, Punk did not pick their critically acclaimed battle from Money in the Bank in Chicago but instead, a match that took place on Raw:

“I think it’s easy to pick number one, it’s me and John Cena from Houston leading up to WrestleMania. It was on a Monday Night Raw. Easily I think our best-televised match, we might have had better matches on house shows, I don’t know. But that is also my flu match. I was sick, and boy was I sick and tired at that point. So that is like the essence of CM Punk at that moment, hurt, tired, pissed off, chip on his shoulder, me and John went out there, it was just planets aligned and it was magic.

If I could ever say that I had a perfect match, that would probably be it. I’m talking lead up, story, character stuff for both guys, action, crowd, being able to manipulate the crowd how you wanted, listening to them, like everything. I gotta give a shout out to Michael Cole on commentary too, because he’s been the voice of so many epic moments in my career. And this is the match where I hit the pile driver on John.”

Rounding out the list, Punk also named his WrestleMania 29 clash against The Undertaker and his SummerSlam 2013 match against Brock Lesnar:

“I’ve had good matches in front of bad crowds. I’ve had bad matches in front of good crowds. So I would disqualify certain matches based on those criteria. But as close to perfect as you can possibly get, I would put CM Punk vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania. And these are all around the same time too. So could possibly be like the zenith of my in ring career? I don’t know. I still like to think I’m operating at a pretty high level. Me vs. Brock at Staples Center, SummerSlam. I think those three are a pretty good list.”

It should be noted that the interview was also recorded before Punk’s match against Drew McIntyre inside Hell in a Cell at Bad Blood.

CM Punk Names Honorable Mentions

After naming his choices, the former World Champion noted that it was a hard task and other matches could have easily made the list:

“How fortunate I am though, there’s matches I’ve had with Rey Mysterio that I could put in there. I’m just talking about WWE stuff, but yeah, me and [Samoa] Joe too. That’s easily number four. It’s hard to do. It’s a humbling question, because it makes me go oh man, yeah, I did some stuff.”

In the first half of the interview, CM Punk explained why the pressure was on to deliver in his Hell in a Cell match with Drew McIntyre.

Also in the interview, CM Punk named his bar fight dream team.

In a new update, the date of CM Punk’s next match looks to have been revealed.
