CM Punk Joining Wrestling Drama Series ‘Heels’

CM Punk

CM Punk is set to star alongside Stephen Amell in the new Starz wrestling-themed series, ‘Heels’.

Amell, the former star of the hit DC show, ‘Arrow’, took to Twitter to welcome Punk to the show, joking that the ‘Straight Edge Superstar’ was “a little rusty in the ring”.

Please welcome @CMPunk to @HeelsSTARZ – He was a little rusty in the ring yesterday, but I assured him it was just like riding a bike.”

The former WWE Champion recently mentioned that he was in quarantine for an upcoming job, it seems likely this is the work he was referring to. The former WWE Champion is no stranger to the acting world, having taken on several parts since leaving wrestling in 2014, including a starring role in the horror movie, ‘Girl on the Third Floor’.

Stephen Amell will star in the upcoming series as one of two brothers warring over their late father’s Georgia-based wrestling promotion. PWInsider has reported that Punk will be playing a rival to Amell’s character, Spade, the titular ‘heel’ of the series. Amell himself has made several wrestling appearances over the last few years, having taken part in a tag match at WWE Summerslam in 2014 alongside Neville, now Pac in AEW, to take on Wade Barrett and Stardust, better known as Cody Rhodes. In 2018, he was also part of All In, the independent wrestling show that would later lead to the creation of AEW, where he suffered a defeat to current AEW Star Christopher Daniels.

While it might not be in the capacity many of his fans had hoped for, this will be the first time Punk has returned to a wrestling ring since leaving WWE after the 2014 Royal Rumble event.
