Dave Meltzer shed light on the ongoing drama surrounding CM Punk‘s involvement in AEW, labelling him “the catalyst” for multiple issues in the company.
On the August 15th episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio podcast, Dave Meltzer said that Punk is the catalyst for multiple issues in AEW and further stated:
His mentality is it’s not good for the public image and it’s not good for the company.
Recently Punk cut a promo on Hangman Adam Page after AEW Collision went off the air. Punk criticised Page’s ability to sell merchandise and labelled him a “peg warmer” stating that nobody wants to buy Page’s merch. CM Punk has since apologised to Adam Page for his remarks.
One of the most notable rumours surrounding Punk’s involvement in AEW is the suggestion that he played a role in the barring of Matt Hardy and head of talent relations Christopher Daniels from Collision events. However, the extent of Punk’s responsibility in this matter remains unclear.
What Is CM Punk Doing In AEW?
Punk returned to AEW on the premiere episode of Collision on June 17th, where he teamed with FTR to defeat Samoa Joe and Bullet Club Gold in a six-man tag team match. Since his return, Punk has declared himself the “real world’s champion” as he was never beaten for his AEW World Championship that he held prior to his absence from the company.
Punk was absent from AEW for nine months following a physical altercation after the All Out event between Punk, his friend and trainer Ace Steel and The Elite consisting of Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks. It was reported that Punk had torn a muscle in his arm at All Out which required surgery.
