CM Punk has discussed the chances of his wife AJ Lee returning to the ring after she was announced as Executive Producer of the relaunched Women Of Wrestling.
It was recently announced that AJ Lee is returning to pro wrestling as an Executive Producer and colour commentator for the rebooted Women Of Wrestling promotion. The news was broken by WOW Superheroes on social media with Lee attending a press conference to discuss her new role.
The promotion recently made headlines when it unveiled former IMPACT Wrestling World Champion Tessa Blanchard as the ‘face of the company.’.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Lee’s husband and a man that knows a little about making a wrestling comeback, CM Punk, gave his thoughts on whether fans would see Lee lace up the Chuck Taylor’s one more time:
“I’m very excited for her. She’s doing what she wants to do. She’s going to get to write and use her voice to do something that she maybe thought she wouldn’t get the chance to do again.
It’s no bumps, and it’s a chance to help foster and grow the next generation of females in wrestling. That’s a perfect, perfect spot for her.”
AJ Lee had previously said on the same subject on the WOW Superheroes YouTube channel:
“I will say, I say the same thing in every interview, and it’s always ‘never say never, but don’t hold your breath.’ What I mean by that is, I never say never to anything; physically, mentally, emotionally, I’m healed from everything I’ve gone through in wrestling.
I could technically do it, but I’m so enjoying letting the next generation have their spotlight. I got to do everything I wanted to do. So, it really would have to be, is that challenge there? I don’t think the girls need me there. I think that they are going to take over the world all by themselves.”
AJ Lee last competed in the wrestling ring in March 2015 when she teamed with Naomi and Paige to defeat Natalya and The Bella Twins. At one point Lee had been the longest reigning WWE Divas Champion in history before hanging up her Converse. Lee’s husband and former WWE Champion CM Punk poured cold water over a potential return to the ring for AJ Lee shortly after his AEW debut.
