CM Punk Heading For Meeting With Tony Khan And A Number Of Top AEW Stars

CM Punk

CM Punk appears to be inching closer to a return to AEW.

The two-time AEW World Champion hasn’t featured for the promotion since All out on September 4th. Shortly after winning the AEW World Title in the main event, Punk unleashed a remarkable verbal tirade at the post-show media scrum. The star took aim at Colt Cabana, Hangman Adam Page, the Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega.

Once backstage, Punk became involved in a brawl also involving The Elite and Ace Steel.

Although many believed that Punk would never wrestle for the company again, it appears that he could be about to pull off a remarkable return.

Speaking on a recent episode of his podcast, Dax Harwood revealed that CM Punk wanted to return to wrestling and AEW. This followed earlier reports that prior to an outburst on social media, Punk had been meeting with Tony Khan to seemingly work out plans for a comeback. Furthermore, it was noted that a deal was all but done.

Meanwhile, on April 13th it was reported by Fightful Select that the “wheels are in motion” regarding a return. AEW has announced an episode of Dynamite will be coming live from the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on June 21st, this is said to be a “date to look out for.” The working plan is that Punk will return at the show, or at least around it.

A further report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that AEW is hoping that Punk will be the headline name on a new Saturday television show that’s coming soon. With the creation of the new show, the AEW roster will be split.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer has now stated that a meeting between Punk, Tony Khan, FTR, Chris Jericho, and others is scheduled to take place soon. Interestingly, Meltzer didn’t mention whether The Elite will be involved. The Elite is said to be against Punk’s return.

“There is a meeting soon and involves Chris Jericho, Tony Khan, CM Punk, FTR, and there may be others in there as well. That’s coming up. I guess the idea is to resolve everything or attempt to resolve everything,”

Meltzer added that the meeting will be “interesting,” noting that he believes Punk will return and star on AEW’s new Saturday show as hoped.

“It’s going to be interesting. Tony Khan wants Punk back, to be the star of the Saturday show and it’s probably…I’m pretty sure it’s going to happen,”

Brandon Cutler Fires Shot At CM Punk

Following the news that Punk could well be returning to AEW, Brandon Cutler shared an article that suggested that the star was “gaslighting” the company. Cutler, who is good friends with The Elite, retweeted the article with the caption “someone gets it,” before deleting the post.
