CM Punk Edited Out Of AEW Collision Press Release

CM Punk holding his ears

Ever since news broke that CM Punk was on his way back to AEW, fans have eagerly awaited official word from the company about his return.

The star hasn’t been seen in All Elite Wrestling since taking part in the now-infamous brawl following the 2022 edition of AEW All Out, and many began to wonder if he’d stepped away for good.

However, it was reported in April that despite continued tensions with The Elite and Chris Jericho, he was indeed on his way back to the company. In the weeks following the report, it was revealed that AEW programming was in for major changes as the company prepares to announce a new deal with partner Warner Bros Discovery.

Earlier today, AEW Collision was officially announced as part of the Warner Bros Discovery upfront. According to an official press release, the show is set to air on Saturday, June 17th. Previous reports indicate that the debut edition of Collision will air from the United Center in Chicago, but that was not confirmed in the press release.

CM Punk Originally Mentioned In Warner Bros Discovery Press Release

While there’s been no official mention of Punk as part of Collision’s debut, Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated noticed that Punk was listed among the roster members in an email sent to fans.

“Here’s an interesting one for the wrestling fans: AEW’s press release on their new show says, ‘will feature headliners including Thunder Rosa, Miro, Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs and Andrade El Idolo.’ Their email, though, and link to the release, mentioned CM Punk. Hmmm….”

Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics confirmed the claim, posting a side-by-side comparison of the cached version of the announcement alongside the one currently available to the public.

“WBD’s press release headline for the AEW Collision announcement originally mentioned CM Punk and other wrestlers, which you can see in the cached listing (left) before it was edited (right).

h/t to @JimmyTraina for noticing”
