CM Punk has reiterated his support for Sasha Banks, commenting that he feels great solidarity with the former Women’s Champion.
Sasha Banks and tag team partner Naomi haven’t been seen on WWE programming since walking out the May 16th episode of Monday Night Raw. In the process, the two women added their names to list of stars including Stone Cold Steve Austin and CM Punk who have walked out on the company for various reasons.
In recent weeks Punk has declared his support for the two women, hitting out at the “cowards” and “bootlickers” who have criticised them.
Appearing on The Hashtag Show at San Diego Comic Con, Punk was asked about his support for Banks and Naomi. The AEW World Champion explained that while he doesn’t know Banks (Mercedes Varnado) personally, he feels solidarity with her.
“My thing is, I can’t listen to people criticize me if I wouldn’t ask advice from them. You can’t lead people somewhere you’ve never gone. I try to be as humble as I can be, and I don’t like talking about myself, but I was the first guy through the wall. I got fucking bloodied for it.
To watch somebody else stand up and walk out, I’m always going to support that, 100 fucking percent. I’ve never met Mercedes, I don’t know her, but I definitely feel solidarity with her. I know how that place is. I know how women are treated there. I’m not a woman myself, so I can’t put myself in those shoes, but there are probably a lot of reasons why she peaced out.”
Ahead of the August 1st episode of Monday Night Raw it was reported that an “agreement had been reached” for Sasha Banks to return to WWE. Although the pair didn’t appear on the show, there remains a belief that they will be heading back to the company.
