CM Punk Details Immediate Reaction To WWE Royal Rumble Injury

CM Punk has looked back on the night when his WWE dreams came crashing down very quickly.

When the dust finally settled from his shock return at Survivor Series, Punk revealed that his televised return match would take place in the 2024 Royal Rumble, approximately 10 years on from his final match in WWE before the infamous walkout. While Punk would make it to the final 2 before being eliminated by Cody Rhodes, many were optimistic that Punk would still be featured prominently at WrestleMania 40 and possibly be in the main event of night one. However, shortly after the Rumble, punk announced that he would not be competing at Mania as he had torn his triceps in the match after being hit with a DDT from Drew McIntyre.

Speaking with Michael Cole ahead of SummerSlam, Punk detailed his state of mind upon realising that he had been injured:

“It came right out of my mouth. I said, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I immediately reached over, felt a quarter-sized hole in my arm, and I just said, okay, well, it’s already gone. There’s nothing you can do. Let’s try to get through this.”

CM Punk Returned To Action At SummerSlam

After being sidelined for 6 months due to injury and making McIntyre’s life a living hell in the process, Punk returned to the ring once more at SummerSlam in a match against McIntyre with Seth Rollins acting as the special guest referee. With Punk’s emotions getting the better of him, the Chicago native was defeated by McIntyre in his return match.

In other SummerSlam news, clarification has since been provided on plans for the main event.
