CM Punk Could Be Crowned Champion At WWE SummerSlam After Unfortunate Gunther News Emerges

Gunther and CM Punk Before WWE SummerSlam

A massive update on Gunther’s immediate future potentially hints that CM Punk could become the new world champion at SummerSlam.

CM Punk and Gunther will be heading into SummerSlam as the main eventers of the first night of the event. Their rivalry has reached new heights with both stars showcasing a lot of mutual respect outside the ring. Inside, however, they have both blasted each other with harsh comments and some verbal bashing. Both stars were then confirmed to be main eventing on night one of SummerSlam, even though Roman Reigns is also in action on the same night.

This led to a lot of speculation that CM Punk could be the one to take home the gold and maybe dethrone Gunther in his second world title reign. Now, an unfortunate update on The Ring General could have confirmed what fans were only thinking.

Gunther Will Need Some Time Off After WWE SummerSlam Match Against CM Punk

According to the Wrestling Observer, it seems that Gunther is dealing with some undisclosed nose “issue.” As a result of this, the star may need to take some time off. While SummerSlam was not specifically mentioned in the update, many fans believe that the hiatus could come after the Biggest Party of the Summer.

If that is indeed the case, CM Punk could walk out of SummerSlam as the new World Heavyweight Champion. The Second City Saint could add a fourth WWE world title to his kitty and make history on August 2. However, all of this also depends on how serious Gunther‘s injury is and whether the star will need an extended time off.

If the hiatus is only a matter of weeks, WWE and Triple H could decide to keep the title on The Ring General despite the hiatus, as they have done on a few occasions lately.

You can watch SummerSlam on Netflix on August 2 and 3.
