CM Punk Cleared To Compete Against Drew McIntyre At WWE SummerSlam; Stipulation Added To Match

CM Punk has given the WWE fans some good news.

Appearing live on the July 22nd episode of Raw, Punk informed the fans in Green Bay, Wisconsin that the previous Saturday he had been cleared for in-ring action after 6 months on the sidelines with a torn tricep. Wasting little time, Punk called out the man who was responsible for the injury in the first place, Drew McIntyre.

While fans may have expected a brawl to take place between The Best in the World and The Scottish Psychopath, McIntyre had other ideas. Not wanting to fight in Green Bay, McIntyre backed away as security stood between both men. Clarifying McIntyre’s comments, General Manager Adam Pearce interrupted and announced that Punk vs. McIntyre would take place at SummerSlam instead. Additionally, Pearce had one final surprise for both men as he introduced Seth Rollins as the answer to his “Big referee problem.” Rollins then confirmed that he would be the special guest referee for the match in Cleveland, Ohio as both men looked on in anger.

The match will be Punk’s first since his WWE return match at the Royal Rumble, where the former World Champion suffered the aforementioned injury after taking a Futureshock DDT from McIntyre in the match. Punk missed the opportunity to compete at WrestleMania 40 due to the injury.

CM Punk Looks To Continue To Torment Drew McIntyre

While McIntyre cost Punk the opportunity to be a part of WrestleMania, Punk has got his revenge on the 3-time World Champion on 3 separate occasions in 2024. Beginning at WrestleMania 40 by attacking McIntyre to allow Damian Priest to cash-in his Money in the Bank contract, CM Punk would also make appearances at Clash at the Castle and at Money in the Bank, both times being a key factor in ensuring that McIntyre did not become World Champion for a 4th time.

In a recent interview, a NXT star remained hopeful that CM Punk would help their dream match become a reality.

Continuing his antics on social media, Drew McIntyre made a controversial CM Punk reference which has been subsequently deleted.
