CM Punk Blasts “The Parasocial Relationship” Between Fans & Wrestlers

CM Punk

CM Punk will reportedly be back with AEW soon and competing on brand new show Collision on Saturday nights. Or will he?

On May 17th it was finally announced that AEW will be launching Collision on June 17th. The new show will air between 8pm and 10pm Eastern on TNT and feature stars such as Miro, Andrade El Idolo, and Thunder Rosa. However, despite speculation linking him with a major return on the premiere episode, there was no mention of CM Punk.

While some suggested this was simply so that his return could be announced on Dynamite at some point in the future, it appears that there’s more to it.

A press release from Warner Bros Discovery originally listed the star as appearing on Collision but this was later edited out. Punk’s name didn’t appear in the press release from AEW either.

To add to the chaos, Warner Bros Discovery denied that Punk is connected to Collision in any way.

In the midst of the frantic reporting, Punk took to social media to fire back at figures such as Bryan Alvarez. In a short video, the two-time AEW World Champion said that picking sides is “silly.”

“The parasocial relationship a lot of fringe wrestling fans have with certain people is really unhealthy. I get the tribalism, it’s fun to root for your team, but picking sides seems a little silly. You don’t know me, you don’t know anybody else. So, go touch grass.”

Situation Around CM Punk And Ace Steel Unclear

There were also reports that Punk’s comeback may have hit a roadblock over the potential return of Ace Steel who was also involved in the infamous brawl following All Out. It is said that while AEW is happy for Steel to return, he won’t be allowed to attend television tapings, something Punk doesn’t agree with.

Interestingly, it has been reported that Chris Jericho was the person to bring up the idea of Steel coming back as it would present a united front for the rest of the locker room.
