CM Punk Calls AEW Run ‘The Greatest Year’ Of His Career

CM Punk

It’s been one year since the unthinkable happened and CM Punk returned to professional wrestling – even he agrees it’s been the best year of his career!

The best moments in pro wrestling are the ones that are impossible to forget. 20 August 2021 saw one of those very moments, as CM Punk returned to a pro wrestling ring for the first time in seven years, signing a deal with All Elite Wrestling that changed the very landscape of wrestling as we knew it.

Taking to Instagram, ‘The Best in the World’ addressed the momentous anniversary, branding it the “greatest” year of his professional career:

“One year ago began the best year of my professional career. Too many great moments, not enough space to post all the great pics. Rekindled passion, made new friends, reunited with old ones. Can’t stop smiling, won’t stop until the wheels fall off. Thank you most of all to all the fans who made it possible. I’m having the time of my life, as there’s a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that’ll be a home run. And so that’ll make it a 4-0 ballgame.”

Initially reported by Fightful Select a few weeks prior, CM Punk’s return sent shockwaves through the wrestling world. The moment meant a lot to so many people, Punk himself included, and the excitement of him being back hasn’t died down.

The last twelve months have seen the former WWE Champion cement his mark on the Tony Khan-helmed organisation, enjoying acclaimed feuds with Eddie Kingston, ‘Hangman’ Adam Page, and MJF. Securing the AEW World Championship from Page in an emotional Double or Nothing headliner, he remains the champion to this day.

CM Punk’s next scheduled contest – his first since the start of June – will see him and interim AEW World Champion Jon Moxley collide to crown an undisputed champion on the forthcoming broadcast of Dynamite.
