CM Punk: Recent AEW Bout Was “Most Perfect Match I’ve Probably Ever Had”

CM Punk on AEW Rampage

CM Punk has claimed that a recent match was probably the “most perfect” of his entire more than two decade long career.

From the moment that CM Punk signed with AEW in August 2021, he has been open about the fact that this run is his love letter to professional wrestling.

To this end, in many of his more high-profile bouts, Punk has worked in tributes to famous matches from years gone by featuring legends such as Bret Hart, the 1-2-3 Kid, and Rowdy Roddy Piper to name just a few.

One of the more highly-acclaimed matches of Punk’s AEW career to date came on the March 23rd edition of Dynamite where he defeated Dax Harwood. The match was worked around a more old-fashioned style, with Harwood more than proving he was able to go toe-to-toe with one of the best singles wrestlers on the planet.

Speaking to ESPN’s Marc Raimondi ahead of Double or Nothing on May 29th, Punk hailed the match as probably the most perfect of his entire career.

“That’s the dragon I’m now chasing. I’m trying to replicate that feeling I had after that match. I never, ever say this, but to me that was the most perfect match I’ve probably ever had.”

At Double or Nothing, CM Punk will take on Hangman Adam Page as he looks to capture the AEW World Championship for the first time. Punk has slowly moved to the top of the rankings after victories over the likes of MJF, Darby Allin and Eddie Kingston. In fact, the star has only been defeated once since joining the company.

Meanwhile, Hangman Adam Page has held the AEW World Title since defeating long-time champion Kenny Omega at Full Gear in November 2021.
