CM Punk Addresses Rumours Of AJ Lee Making A Wrestling Return

AJ Lee

With CM Punk making his return to wrestling, many fans were left wondering if that meant wife AJ Lee might be on the comeback trail as well but Punk seems to have put paid to that notion.

The worst kept secret in wrestling was revealed on the 20th of August edition of AEW Rampage entitled The First Dance. In front of a sell-out crowd in the United Center in Chicago, hometown hero CM Punk entered back into the world of professional wrestling to a thunderous reception.

Punk hadn’t been seen in a wrestling ring since walking out of WWE in early 2014 and while fans were delighted to see the former WWE Champion back, there was one other name not far from wrestling fan’s lips – Punk’s wife AJ Lee.

AJ Lee was a superstar in her own right as she took up residence in the main event scene of RAW in the summer of 2012. Confusing and conspiring against and with Punk, Daniel Bryan, and Kane, Lee seemed to have power over the three men who were trying to focus on battling for the WWE Title. At RAW 1000 AJ Lee jilted Bryan at the altar during a wedding ceremony before being named as the new RAW General Manager by Vince McMahon.

Greater in-ring success was to come for Lee who was a three-time WWE Divas Champion. Her first reign was the most memorable and at 295 days was for a time the longest reign in that title’s history. Lee continued wrestling for WWE for over a year after Punk’s departure. She wrestled her last match on the RAW after WrestleMania 31 teaming with Paige and Naomi to defeat The Bella Twins and Natalya.

Speaking to Joseph Staszewski of The New York Post, CM Punk addressed AJ Lee’s in-ring status and says a wrestling return is not on the cards:

“I just want to say, no. Just because [of] her neck. The reason she stopped wrestling is because of her neck. She’s got a bad neck, you know. I wouldn’t want her to jeopardize [her] health and neither would she, so we’ll put an end to that rumour right now.”

CM Punk gave his wife a shout-out during his AEW Dynamite debut where he shared a ring with Tony Schiavone, this caused AJ Lee to respond on social media.
