CM Punk Responds To Adam Page After Bret Hart Comments On Dynamite

By James Holder. Published 5th May 2022.
Adam Page & CM Punk

CM Punk has responded to Hangman Adam Page after the AEW World Champion had some fighting talk for his newest challenger.

After missing the previous episode of AEW Dynamite, Hangman Adam Page returned to AEW television on May 4th and he had some choice words for CM Punk.

In Page’s absence, it was announced that he will defend his AEW World Championship against CM Punk at Double or Nothing. Following the announcement, Punk cut a promo where he told Page he was coming for his title.

With roles reversed on May 4th, a fired up Adam Page came to the ring and took aim at Punk, saying that he is going to destroy him, and that the match won’t be a “masturbatory Bret Hart tribute.”

“It would be real easy for me to come out here and say how much I love CM Punk, how much I respect him. It would be real easy to tell ya how much I look forward to shaking his hand in this ring, and how much I look forward to standing across the ring from the best in the world at Double or Nothing.

It would be real, real easy to tell ya how much I’m looking forward to having an all-time classic for the AEW World Championship. It would be real, real easy, but that’s not gonna happen.

At Double or Nothing there’s not going to be handshake. At Double or Nothing there’s not going to be a masturbatory Bret Hart tribute match. I am going to destroy CM Punk!”

Page continued by singling out a CM Punk fan in the crowd saying he would be looking for a refund on his shirt, before commenting that it was ironic that Punk wasn’t at Dynamite because he was away filming at TV show.

“Punk wherever you are, I want you to hear me, and I want you to hear every word that I say. I am going to embarrass you! You said that you wanted a fight? Well you’ve got one, and Punk, it will be the fight of your life!”

Posting on social media, Punk’s response was simple. “Destroy? Sharpshooter it is.”

Page’s comments regarding Bret Hart were a reference to Punk regularly paying homage to Hart during his matches. Punk has always been open about his admiration for The Hitman, and has incorporated sequences from his matches during many of his big AEW bouts.

There were tributes in his matches with Darby Allin, MJF and more recently his bout on Dynamite with Dustin Rhodes, which featured elements on Hart’s match with Rhodes from 1997.

Hangman Adam Page will defend his AEW World Championship against CM Punk at Double or Nothing in Las Vegas on May 29th.
