Claudio Castagnoli has his sights set on taking the ROH World Championship at Death Before Dishonor.
When Claudio Castagnoli arrived in AEW, many fans were excited about the prospect of him finally winning a major World Championship. ‘The Swiss Superman’ has come close in the past but ultimately failed to reach the mountain top, but that may all come to an end at ROH Death Before Dishonor.
After ROH World Champion Johnathan Gresham successfully defended his title against Lee Moriarty on this week’s AEW Rampage, Claudio Castagnoli came out to stare down the champion. It was then announced that Claudio would challenge Gresham for the championship at the upcoming ROH pay-per-view:

The ROH World Championship has a lot of meaning to Claudio Castagnoli, who has held other ROH titles before but never the main championship. During his ROH rise in 2007, Claudio challenged for the title at Death To Dishonor V against then-champion Takeshi Morishima, but he ended up not taking the winner’s purse. A match against Jonathan Gresham is a chance to get a bit of redemption.
It’s not surprising that Claudio Castagnoli will compete at this event. When Tony Khan spoke about Claudio signing with the company, he mentioned having thought ‘The Swiss Superman’ would make his debut at Death Before Dishonor prior to the Bryan Danielson injury. Claudio replaced Danielson in the match at Forbidden Door against Zack Sabre Jr., and sped up the process of his debut.
Now that Claudio is in the swing of things in AEW, it’s only a matter of time before he does capture some gold again.
