Claudio Castagnoli Crowned ROH World Champion

Claudio Castagnoli

Claudio Castagnoli has won his first World Championship, capturing the top ROH title at Death Before Dishonor.

At Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor on July 24th, Claudio Castagnoli challenged Jonathan Gresham for the ROH World Championship.

Castagnoli quickly got the advantage with a Giant Swing, but Gresham was able to rally and began focusing on the bigger man’s knee. The two later got in a striking contest with Gresham attacking with brutal chops before the Swiss Superman answered with a series of uppercuts.

Despite some impressive comebacks from Gresham, he couldn’t overcome Claudio Castagnoli’s will to win and the King of Swing found an opportunity to wear the champion down with heavy elbows before hitting a Ricola Bomb for the pinfall victory and his first-ever World Championship.

This is the latest victory in the undefeated streak Claudio Castagnoli started on his AEW debut at Forbidden Door in June.

First, the newest member of the Blackpool Combat Club defeated NJPW’s Zack Sabre Jr. at that event before joining his team in getting the victory over the Jericho Appreciation Society in a brutal Blood & Guts match later that same week. More recently, he overcame Jake Hager in a bout on Dynamite.
