Ciampa And Thatcher Join The Dusty Classic

Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher are going to be teammates in the 2021 Men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

WWE has announced (via William Regal on Twitter) that Ciampa & Thatcher will fill the empty spot in the Dusty Classic. A spot which was created when Ashante Thee Adonis was injured at the hands of Karrion Kross this past week on NXT – thus ruling the team of Adonis & Troy unable to compete.

Ciampa & Thatcher will now face Tony Nese & Ariya Daivari in the first round.

In the main event of NXT this week, Thatcher defeated Ciampa in a Fight Pit match. WWE uploaded two videos after the match setting up the unlikely new duo. As Ciampa was being examined after the Fight Pit, he learned that Adonis & Troy are out of the Dusty Classic.

Ciampa then went to Thatcher and asked why he didn’t break his leg when he had the chance to in the Fight Pit. Thatcher responded simply by saying “respect”. Ciampa then told Thatcher he’s heard there’s an open spot in the Dusty Classic, Thatcher nodding and walking off.

NXT general manager William Regal posted the above tweet confirming that Ciampa & Thatcher will be teaming together in the tournament:

Well, @NXTCiampa is partially correct. There WAS an opening for the #DustyClassic, but it seems you two have just filled that vacancy… good luck gentlemen. #WWENXT

Ciampa & Thatcher vs Nese & Daivari is the last remaining first round match in the men’s Dusty Classic. The winning team will face Undisputed Era’s Adam Cole & Roderick Strong in the quarterfinals.

The team that wins the men’s Dusty Classic will get the Dusty Cup and a shot at Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch’s NXT Tag Team titles.
