AEW star Christian Cage has revealed who he would have liked to have faced had he stayed in WWE instead of joining AEW.
Christian made a surprise return to the ring at the 2021 Royal Rumble, before sharing an emotional moment with long-time friend Edge in the middle of the ring. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion was eventually eliminated by Seth Rollins, while Edge would famously go on to win the match.
Following Christian’s surprise appearance speculation surrounding his future exploded.
However, in a move almost as surprising as his Royal Rumble return, Christian never wrestled another match for WWE. The returning hero instead signed with AEW in March.
During a recent appearance on AEW Unrestricted, the man known once more as Christian Cage, opened up about that special moment he shared with Edge as well as indulging in a little fantasy booking of his own.
Responding to a question from a listener, Cage revealed who he would have liked to have faced had he remained with WWE. Captain Charisma initially named Kevin Owens, praising his passion, before saying he could have “done some pretty special things” with Sami Zayn.
“I would say probably Kevin Owens,” Cage stated. “I really like the passion that he has. I like the way that he delivers his promos. I think he’s fearless when he delivers his promos. I think that he’s a fearless competitor in the ring as well. I just like his style. Sami Zayn as well. I thought, especially this character the way it is now, we could have done some pretty special things. So off the top of my head, I would say probably those two guys.”
Cage later stopped short of ruling out appearing with talent from IMPACT, NJPW and the NWA, commenting that his focus was on AEW.
The former NWA World Heavyweight Champion appeared on the most recent episode of AEW Dynamite, defeating Powerhouse Hobbs of Team Taz.
