Christian Cage’s decision is seemingly affecting a major AEW storyline.
Ever since Cope’s arrival at WrestleDream 2023, fans have been clamoring for a reunion with Christian Cage. The veteran star turned down the offer and subsequently attacked Copeland, leading them to feud over the TNT Championship.
Cope is out with an injury and has a feud set up with FTR on his return. Fans speculated if this was the opportunity for AEW to pull the trigger and reunite the legendary tag team.
With Christian involved in what seems to be a feud with Nick Wayne, the reunion will have to wait, which has led many to speculate on the reason for the delay.
Sean Ross Sapp provided us with an answer. On a recent live stream of Fightful’s The Hump, Sean stated that according to his sources, the reunion was supposed to happen at All In, but it seems the former TNT Champion apparently does not want to turn face as of now and wants to continue The Patriarchy storyline.
He said:
“People I talked to hinted to me that there were some hiccups in relation to turning Christian babyface or getting him out of the Patriarchy. Seems like he wanted to do that for a little bit longer and I don’t know the reaction of those that were involved in the story, but they had planned for Cope and Christian against FTR at All In, now I mean you could do it at all out and it could main event the show but, if I’m AEW, I’m saying Christian friend you are not the booker we want this match for All In and then we’ll do it again at All Out.”

Sapp does make a valid point, while talent having a bigger say in their storyline is always great, it shouldn’t come at the cost of a major angle, especially when it could get more eyeballs on the product. As reported by SRS, fans would tentatively have to wait till All Out for the reunion.
Cope Announces Change To AEW Retirement Run
It was a well-known fact that Cope came to the promotion with retirement not too far away. Earlier, it was reported that his run would last for 18 months.
But with time off due to injuries and the storylines that remain to be finished, Cope has changed his mind about his retirement date. You can read more about his intentions here as AEW fans await his comeback.
