Chris Jericho might be closer to the end of his career than the start, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be hanging up his boots any time soon.
The former World Champion has been wrestling for more than 30 years and still features in a prominent position with AEW. In early 2002, Jericho returned after a short break in the best physical condition he had been in for many years and his career has gone from strength to strength, topped off with an ROH World Title win.
Despite his continued success as the leader of the Jericho Appreciation Society, naturally, fans have begun to wonder how long the veteran can keep going.
Chris Jericho Has No Plans To Retire
However, during an appearance on the WTF with Marc Maron Podcast, Jericho said that he has no plans to retire. The former World Champion stated that he would only step away if he realised he was consistently “phoning it in.”
“People say, ‘Well, how much longer are you going to do this?'” Jericho said. “I could end tomorrow. I could end five years from now, or who cares? Sting is 63 and still doing great stuff. So who knows, man? To me, as long as you can still compete at a high level — like I have a high standard for myself. If I went out there and two, three, four times in a row I felt like, ‘Oof, I’m starting to f***ing phone this in,’ I would quit.”
Chris Jericho will be back in action on the January 25th edition of AEW Dynamite when he teams with Sammy Guevara to take on Ricky Starks and Action Andretti.
Elsewhere on the card, Mark Briscoe will make his AEW debut against Jay Lethal in a tribute to his late brother Jay Briscoe. The brothers had previously been banned from appearing for AEW by Warner Bros. Discovery.
It has been announced that Britt Baker has been pulled from the show due to an undisclosed injury.
