Chris Jericho has revealed that his original pitch for The Jericho Appreciation Society would have seen the 5-man group named The Citadel.
On the March 9th edition of AEW Dynamite, Chris Jericho finally had enough of the influence Eddie Kingston was having over Santana and Ortiz in his Inner Circle faction. Jericho planned an assault on Kingston, Santana, and Ortiz with the help of longtime associate Jake Hager and former rivals 2point0 and Daniel Garcia.
Jericho then introduced the group as The Jericho Appreciation Society, renaming 2point0 as ‘Daddy Magic’ Matt Menard and ‘Cool Hand Ang’ Angelo Parker in the process.
Speaking with his group on his Talk Is Jericho podcast, Chris Jericho revealed that he had originally pitched another name for the group, only for it to get no reaction from AEW President, Tony Khan:
“The original idea for this whole plan, the name of it was going to be The Citadel. I thought The Citadel was great. I said it to Tony and there was no pop for it whatsoever.”
“I was like, ‘The Citadel sucks. I need something better.’ I was looking at the Art Appreciation Society or something like that, some weird email of ‘if you like this, maybe you should check out the Art Appreciation Society in downtown Detroit.’ Then, The Jericho Appreciation Society was just cheesy enough. It’s pretentious.”
At Double Or Nothing, The Jericho Appreciation Society will compete in the first-ever Anarchy In The Arena match in AEW as they face Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, Eddie Kingston, Santana, and Ortiz.
