Chris Jericho Reveals Shawn Michaels’ Reaction To Brock Lesnar Shooting Star Press

Chris Jericho has revealed Shawn Michaels’ feelings on Brock Lesnar’s attempted Shooting Star Press at WrestleMania 19.

At WrestleMania 19, Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels fought in a singles match for the first time in a bout that went down as a classic.

The same show was headlined by another first when Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar clashed over the WWE Heavyweight Championship. That match was on course to go reach the same heights as Michaels and Jericho until Lesnar made the decision to climb to the top rope.

The Beast Incarnate attempted a Shooting Star Press on Angle but fell short and ploughed his head into the canvas. Lesnar was rocked but was able to hit the final F5 to capture the gold.

Speaking to Kenny McIntosh during the recent ‘The Jericho Chronicles’ tour of the UK with Inside The Ropes (via Talk Is Jericho), Chris Jericho reflected on the event.

“Well, here’s the thing. Once again, I mentioned before about how certain matches aren’t destined to be classics, because they just don’t have the time or the buildup. This match of Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho was given all of the tools to become a classic match. And in my opinion, it is a classic.

“Every year, like I said, right off the gate, people want to steal the show. Everybody wants to have the best match on Wrestlemania. And I can honestly say for Wrestlemania 19, the best match on the show was Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho.

“That’s not my opinion, that’s just what everybody and critics and fans, everybody thinks. So we have achieved this goal that was seemingly unattainable. Shawn’s done it many times, that’s probably the one and only time that I did it.”

Turning to people who believe that Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle put on the better bout, Jericho recalled Shawn Michaels reaction to them. HBK doesn’t think it’s possible for it to be better when one man landed on his head.

“I remember at one somebody was saying, ‘Well, you know, Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle is pretty good, too,’ and that was the one where Brock did a shooting star press and landed on his head.

“I wish I could do a better Shawn Michaels impression, but I can’t. It’s just got that really deep, kind of cocky, arrogant voice. [Impersonates HBK] ‘Well, let me ask you this, how could their match be better than ours when the finish was the guy landing on his f*cking head?’”

During the same conversation, Chris Jericho discussed when he realised it was time to leave WWE behind.
