Chris Jericho has been ranked the fourth best wrestler of 2020 in the first-ever ITR 50 as announced in the latest issue of Inside The Ropes Magazine.

Jericho began 2020 on a high by retaining the AEW World Championship over Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 14, though he would lose the belt in a high-calibre encounter with Jon Moxley (who ranked #7 in the ITR 50) at AEW Revolution shortly after. In the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the former ‘Le Champion’ would make a temporary move to colour commentary alongside Tony Schiavone – receiving rave reviews for his villainous advocacy.

Jericho returned to the ring in June and would take the fight to The Elite & Matt Hardy alongside the Inner Circle in the critically-acclaimed Stadium Stampede bout at Double Or Nothing in a losing effort, before turning his attention to the carefree Orange Cassidy. The two had a three-match rivalry where Cassidy came out on top with a 2-1 lead after winning their final confrontation at All Out in the somewhat nonsensical Mimosa Mayhem match.

The ever-gloating MJF would be Jericho’s final rival of the year with the two’s on-and-off relationship dominating AEW programming for the latter half of the year. Jericho and Friedman would star in the over-the-top ‘Dinner Debonaire’ song and dance number segment – which gave MJF a ‘Best Performances of 2020’ nomination – before the two faced off at Full Gear. MJF upset the wrestling veteran, allowing himself and Wardlow to be admitted into the Inner Circle.

Kenny McIntosh, the founder of Inside The Ropes, pinpointed Jericho’s success to his effortless ability to elevate newer performers and steal any show he appears on – whether he’s on the mic or in the ring:

“Nearly every week on AEW Dynamite, the highlight of the show was Chris Jericho. At 49 years old, he managed to elevate the younger stars he was in the ring with, steal the show on the mic and entertain us in his matches.”

Issue 4 of Inside The Ropes Magazine, which features the ITR 50 in full, is available for both digital and physical purchase online worldwide as well as in the United States, Canada, Australia and Ireland through select retailers.
