Chris Jericho says it comes as no surprise to him that Roman Reigns is making the waves he is as The Head Of The Table on SmackDown, saying WWE needed to just let Roman be Roman.
Reigns was propelled to the top of WWE beginning in 2015 where a Royal Rumble win led to his first WrestleMania main event. Over the next few years, the company kept Reigns front and centre of their programming despite the WWE Universe taking a while to warm up to him. A divisive figure to fans, Reigns’ fortunes changed immeasurably when he returned to the company after a short hiatus at SummerSlam 2020.
Aligning himself with his Special Counsel Paul Heyman, Roman Reigns was only looking for Roman Reigns and had no love for the fans that were hesitant to show love to him.
One man who is not in the least surprised that Roman Reigns has risen to new heights is his former in-ring rival and current AEW star, Chris Jericho. Jericho spoke about Reigns during an appearance on Konnan’s Keepin’ It 100 podcast and said WWE needed to let the big dog off the leash.
“I haven’t [kept up] but I’ve been reading about it and it’s no surprise. When I was there in 2016 I worked with Roman basically all around the world. I was a heel, he was a babyface. It’s a no-brainer there. You know what Roman is? I always said this and he’s doing it now, if you just drop the f**king script and just let him be him, he’s Cool Hand Luke man. He’s like the coolest cat. He’s a great guy. Just let him be him, and that’s what he’s doing now, obviously with a heelish slant, which is great.”
Roman Reigns is set to go one one one with Jericho’s former tag team partner Edge at Money In The Bank. The Rated-R Superstar recently returned to WWE to challenge Reigns after The Tribal Chief defeated both him and Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 37.
