Former AEW World Champion Chris Jericho has donated $2,500 to the family of an Uber Eats driver who was murdered last week during an alleged carjacking.Mohammad Anwar, a 66-year-old food delivery driver who immigrated to the United States from Pakistan in 2014, passed away in Washington DC after, according to officials, two girls – aged 13 and 15 – made an attempt to steal Anwar’s vehicle and reportedly deployed a Taser on the driver. The original article from TMZ covering the incident reveals that the full thing was captured on cell phone video, and shows Anwar trying to re-enter his vehicle while one of the girls is inside. Anwar then seems to yell, “This is my car” before the vehicle accelerates down the block for almost ten seconds before crashing. The car ended up on its side and Anwar sadly passed away.Following the tragedy, a GoFundMe page was created to help ease the burden on the Anwar family, of whom Mohammed was the financial provider, and Chris Jericho was among the 23,000 generous donors.
Following his donation, Jericho told TMZ Sports:
“Just the feeling of terror he must’ve had being stuck halfway out of the car as the thieves […] mere children […] hit the gas. Something out of a horror movie.”
The GoFundMe page has already raised over $800,000, surpassing the initial $100,000 goal. Meanwhile, the suspects have been charged with felony murder and armed carjacking and are behind bars awaiting their next court appearance.
“I just thought the whole situation was terrible and it really hit me hard. It’s not much, but it’s the most I could do to try and bring some light into a dark situation.”
