It has been confirmed that hated rivals Eddie Kingston and Chris Jericho will clash at AEW Revolution.

Tensions have been building between Chris Jericho and the man who he believes helped break up the Inner Circle, Eddie Kingston for a number of weeks.

The dissention began with Santana and Ortiz becoming increasingly frustrated with their role in the group, believing they were held back from winning tag team gold. The seeds for this annoyance were planted by Eddie Kingston, who said the pair were being prevented from becoming champions by Inner Circle leader Jericho.

This led to Jericho and Kingston trading barbs, while a match between Santana & Ortiz and Chris Jericho and Jake Hager was set for the February 16th episode of Dynamite.

However, before the bell rang to start the bout, Kingston made his return to television following an eye injury, to be in the corner of his friends.

For the most part, Kingston remained out of harms way, but when he did venture to the apron in support of Santana and Ortiz he was drop-kicked to the floor by Jericho. After the former AEW World Champion was pinned, he immediately went after Kingston, with the pair being separated by referees.

In the days after the altercation it was confirmed that the pair would meet face to face on the February 23rd.

During the verbal sparring, both men fired shots at WWE as well as each other, with Jericho taking aim at Kingston for being afraid of success, adding that he was jealous of the fact that he had been successful for a number of years.

For his part, Kingston said that Jericho was only so successful because he hadn’t had to deal with him before, challenging him to a fight at Revolution. Jericho retaliated by calling his rival a failure, before Kingston shot back saying that he wanted to face the very best of Jericho. The one that was the first AEW World Champion and the one that “your friend Levesque hated.”

The February 23rd episode of Dynamite also saw the shock AEW debut of Buddy Matthews. The former WWE Superstar arrived to help the House of Black in their bid to destroy Death Triangle.
