Chris Hero Recalls Yelling At Baron Corbin For Disrespecting A Veteran

Former WWE Superstar Chris Hero has opened up on an incident where he lost it at Baron Corbin for disrespecting a veteran wrestler when they joined WWE.

Chris Hero, known in WWE as Kassius Ohno, was in NXT when Baron Corbin, real name Thomas Pestock, joined WWE following a short NFL career.

Speaking to Mojo Rawley on ‘Shoot Conversations With Chris Hero‘, Hero recalled an incident where Corbin mentioned “some girl” who had just signed with the company. That “girl” was respected wrestling veteran Sara Del Ray, who had just joined as a trainer for the promotion.

He was brand new. Football Tom is Baron Corbin, he’s burned into my head forever as Football Tom. He speaks, ‘Yeah…okay,’ You might think he’s kind of bored when he talks. He doesn’t speak like, ‘Oh yes, okay.’ The new class that was starting that day, he’s like, ‘Yeah…they got this new girl,’ and he was talking about Sara [Amato]. I just remember that it happened and I was standing in McIntyre’s and I was like, ‘How dare you!'”

He went on to explain that Corbin had been encouraged to “be an asshole”.

“I heard at the time that he was told to play it up. ‘It’s okay. You want people…’ F**k off, that’s terrible advice. Sara Del Ray had just come in at a tryout camp, the same one with Sasha Banks, Sami Zayn, Scott Dawson, and a bunch of them got hired. Sara got hired as a coach, so she came to Tampa to coach the girls. For him to go, ‘Oh yeah, some new girl.’ Maybe I’m embellishing.”

For his part, Corbin apologised but didn’t seem to understand Hero’s anger.

“I was like, ‘How dare you, f**king do some research. You’re going to talk about one of your coaches that way? Get your shit in gear.’ ‘Oh, I’m sorry man, why are you so mad?’ We never had any kind of continued heat off of that, I just remember being like, ‘What’s this guy’s problem?'”

Chris Hero had two runs in NXT, from 2012-2013 and a longer period from 2016-2019 when he had memorable feuds with the likes of Hideo Itami, now better known as KENTA, and Bobby Roode. Recently, Chris Jericho revealed that Hero was almost part of the ‘Labours of Jericho’ storyline in AEW.
