According to Fightful’s premium service, Fightful Select, Chelsea Green is working towards being cleared for a WWE return.
On the November 13, 2020, edition of Friday Night SmackDown, the former NXT talent made her main roster debut in a Fatal 4-Way Match to determine the final spot on the Women’s SmackDown Survivor Series Team against Liv Morgan, Natalya and Tamina.
However, misfortune befell the star when she took a bump off of the apron and to the arena floor where she broke her wrist upon landing. It was an unfortunate set of circumstances for Green who had been booked to originally win the bout and head to the company’s elimination spectacle instead of eventual winner Liv Morgan.
Now, Fightful Select have reported that the star – currently engaged to Matt ‘Zack Ryder’ Cardona – is almost one hundred percent and is now looking for confirmation of clearance by medical staff:
Good news emerging out of WWE, as Fightful has learned that as of last Friday [January29], Chelsea Green is going through the process of being cleared. Green has been side-lined for the last two months after sustaining a broken wrist, but has been working to prepare for a return. She’s been seen at the WWE Performance Center over the course of January, and has been working out at Robert Stone’s gym alongside Britt Baker, Santana Garrett, Deonna Purrazzo and Reba/Rebel, according to social media posts.
We’re told the injury has healed up, but Green still has to go through WWE’s standard injury protocol before being deemed “good to go.” Green was not backstage at the WWE Royal Rumble and was never planned for the show.
Her November debut was meant to be a brand new beginning for the talent in WWE – she was also due to undergo a name change – after suffering several setbacks both in NXT with injuries, and in an initial plan to head to Monday Night Raw in 2020.
The initial plan was for the company to delve back in time to 2005/2006 and draw upon inspiration from the Mickie James and Trish Stratus stalker storyline, but with Green in the role of James and the wily veteran attempting to ward off the interest of her biggest fan. The company were even said to have filmed several segment for the tale but it was scrapped when Paul Heyman was relieved of his duties of Executive Director of the red brand.
When Chelsea Green does return to WWE, she will do so to Friday Night SmackDown to take her place in what is fast becoming a celebrated and stacked women’s division.
