Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair has commented on what it’s like to share the ring with your friends, “sometimes you hit them harder.”
While Charlotte Flair is currently involved in a highly heated and controversial rivalry with Becky Lynch, she was also involved in a very public flashpoint back in August. On that occasion, Flair was sharing the ring with former Raw Women’s Champion Nia Jax.
At one point during the match Nia Jax picked Flair up for a belly-to-back suplex and dropped The Queen high on her shoulders, and neck onto the canvas. Many fans wondered if there was a hint of reality when the two women began trading slaps before continuing with the match. Flair also delivered a nasty-looking chop block to Jax’s knee in an attempt to set her up for the Figure 8 submission.
After the show it was reported that the flare-up was indeed a “legitimate confrontation.”
Appearing on The Masked Man Show, Flair has now addressed the incident. The Raw Women’s Champion said that she is still friends with Nia Jax, adding that sometimes “you hit your friends harder.”
“Do you want me to FaceTime her? [laughs]. Still best friends. You know what happened with Nia and I? You hit your friends harder. You hit your friends harder. I truly believe, anytime I’ve been in a match with someone I feel super comfortable with and that’s really what it was,”
The match has become a talking point once more in recent weeks in light of Charlotte Flair’s quickly devolving relationship with Becky Lynch. After the pair clashed backstage after an episode of SmackDown, it was reported that the feeling amongst the locker room that Flair had become “increasingly difficult” to work with.
Meanwhile, it was suggested that Jax was backed by those in the women’s locker room after her own clash with The Queen.
Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch are set to meet in the ring at Survivor Series in a highly anticipated champion vs.WWE champion bout.
While the outcome of the match between Lynch and Flair continues to be hotly debated by fans, it appears that similar conversations are also taking place backstage.
A new report notes that there is still real-life animosity between the two women, but WWE are expecting them to remain professional come show time on November 21st. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the finish of the match has been “greatly debated.”
