Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey’s anticipated WrestleMania clash will headline night one of the April weekender.
Ronda Rousey earned the right to challenge Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship through winning the 2022 women’s Royal Rumble match, opting to challenge “The Queen” on the following blue brand broadcast. The match is now scheduled to be the main event of the first night, or “WrestleMania Saturday”, as WWE is seemingly referring to it as.
The news was first confirmed by FOX Sports’ WWE Analyst, Ryan Satin, with WWE later confirming the match will headline the stupendous event.
Ronda Rousey returned to WWE as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble match, entering from number twenty-eight to win the whole thing. She last eliminated Charlotte Flair in doing so, with the SmackDown Women’s Champion having put herself in the match with the hopes of choosing her own opponent for ‘Mania.
“The Baddest Woman On The Planet” hadn’t been seen in WWE since she dropped the Raw Women’s Championship to Becky Lynch in the main event of WrestleMania 35, with Flair’s SmackDown title also being defended in a winner takes all scenario. Competing on 29 January marked her first participation in a Royal Rumble match.
WrestleMania 38 will mark the third straight year of a two-night WrestleMania, following WrestleManias 36 and 37 in 2020 and 2021, respectively. While 2020 featured two men’s main events (The Undertaker vs. AJ Styles and Drew McIntyre vs. Brock Lesnar), WrestleMania 37 saw a women’s main event on night one, with Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks, and a men’s on night two as both Edge and Daniel Bryan challenged for Roman Reigns‘ Universal Championship.
