After almost half a year away from WWE, Charlotte Flair made her monumental return at TLC.
Having previously been written off TV at the hands of Nia Jax to undergo surgery in June, Flair returned to avenge her own injury – and Lana’s. Flair would return to team with RAW Women’s Champion Asuka to take on the Tag Team Champions, Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax, after Lana was removed from the matchup on WWE RAW.
While Flair spent much of the start of the year on the red brand, a Royal Rumble win saw The Queen target Rhea Ripley and win the NXT Women’s Championship at WrestleMania. Following a short spell on the black and gold brand, Flair would lose the title in a Triple Threat Match at NXT TakeOver: In Your House to Io Shirai. Despite not being active at the time of the WWE Draft, Flair was confirmed to be a RAW Superstar going forward.
Flair would make a triumphant return at TLC – winning the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships – and becoming the third Women’s Grand Slam Champion!
Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler had held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships since Payback, defeating two other Grand Slam Champions – Sasha Banks and Bayley – in the process. Jax has made a beeline for Lana over several months in WWE, putting the Ravishing Russian through the announce table on nine different occasions, before assaulting Lana after losing to her on this past week’s RAW. Charlotte is the fourth Women’s Grand Slam Champion, alongside Bayley, Sasha Banks and Asuka.
The story would come full circle regarding Charlotte Flair’s injury, sustained in June, as The Queen returned and helped RAW Women’s Champion Asuka dethrone the Tag Team Championships.
