The iconic Ric Flair made a triumphant return to the ring for JCP on July 31st, 2022, teaming up with his son-in-law, Andrade El Idolo, to defeat Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett in what was advertised as his retirement match.
Ric Flair’s daughter Charlotte Flair, the current WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion, was in attendance at the match to witness the special moment between her father and husband, but was not permitted to be involved in the bout due to her WWE contract.
Charlotte Flair On Being Envious She Could Be Part Of Her Father’s Last Match
When appearing on NBC’s The TODAY Show to promote the upcoming Royal Rumble, Charlotte opened up about her emotions surrounding her father’s return, expressing that while she has shared the ring with him in the past, she was “a little jealous” of not being able to join her father and husband in the ring for the match.
Charlotte also mentioned her late brother Reid, who tragically passed away in 2013, and the wish that he could have been there to see his father walk that aisle one final time.
“It was an emotional day for me, seeing my father and husband in the ring together. I couldn’t help but feel a little envious that I wasn’t able to be a part of it. But at the same time, I was thrilled for my husband to have the opportunity to share the ring with my father. It was a picture-perfect moment, and I wish my brother Reid could have been there to see it. Although my father could have just managed my husband, it all worked out in the end,” Charlotte said.
Charlotte Flair made her return to WWE at the back end of 2022 following several months on the sidelines, defeating Ronda Rousey in an impromptu match to win the SmackDown Women’s Title in her first match back.
Ric Flair made his own return to WWE television this past Monday night on the bumper Raw XXX celebration episode, where he introduced Charlotte for a promo and described her as the greatest female talent of all time.
