Charlotte Flair Discusses Infamous ‘Belt Drop’ Segment

Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair exchange words in the ring

Charlotte Flair has given her side of the story as relates to her notorious title exchange segment with Becky Lynch that led to Flair being escorted from the building.

The 2021 WWE Draft saw then-SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch traded to Raw, while the reigning Raw Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair, was traded to SmackDown. WWE’s answer to this issue was to simply have the women swap title belts on SmackDown in the middle of the ring.

During the exchange, Lynch attempted to swipe Flair’s title belt from her hands leading to The Queen dropping it to the mat. Tempers rose and reports followed that Lynch and Flair had a heated exchange backstage before Flair was removed by security.

Now joining WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin on his Broken Skull Sessions, Charlotte Flair has given her side of the story and says the belt drop was a complete accident:

“You’ve got two women that want to be the best. They want to be in that top spot. I wish I could sit here and tell you that I did it on purpose.”

“But if people need me to be that bad guy, I’ll be that bad guy. Things happen on screen. I would never go on a scripted television show and purposely do something on purpose. It was accidental.”

During the conversation, Charlotte Flair also addressed the ongoing situation between WWE, Sasha Banks, and Naomi.
