AEW has announced that the Trios Championships will be on the line in an open challenge at Double or Nothing.
Current champions, the House of Black team of Malakai Black, Buddy Matthews & Brody King, have been defending the titles regularly on Dynamite under their own ‘Open House’ rules. The unique stipulations include:
- 20-second countouts
- No rope breaks on submissions
- DQ is enforced but the option to make it No DQ is always on the table
Under those rules, they have so far overcome the team of Bandido, Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta, and more recently AR Fox, Blake Christian & Metalik.
However, at Double or Nothing, they are likely to meet a new level of challenger as former Tag Team Champions The Acclaimed have made their intentions known.
The Acclaimed to challenge House of Black at AEW Double or Nothing?
During the latest episode of Rampage, The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn defeated La Faccion Ingobernables members Rush, Dralistico & Preston Vance. Following the bout, Anthony Bowens took a microphone and said he planned to do “some gambling.”
“We’ve been running through this trios division all month long!
“Seeing as though we are in Vegas, I think that we should do some gambling.
“Vegas, I think if you’re going to do some gambling, maybe Sunday night, just rememeber this.
“Yeah, the house always wins, but never bet on black, because everyone loves The Acclaimed!”
The Acclaimed have been on a hot streak since winning the Tres de Mayo Trios Battle Royal on the May 3rd edition of Dynamite. Since then they have also defeated the teams of Kip Sabian, The Butcher & The Blade; and The Varsity Athletes.
