As per Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, ‘The Swiss Superman’ Cesaro has come to terms on a new deal to secure his WWE future.
Several weeks ago, it was reported that Cesaro’s WWE contract would expire following WrestleMania 37 and it was unknown whether or not he would re-sign with the company or seek his fortunes elsewhere.
Now, according to Meltzer in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the former WWE United States Champion has either already penned a new contract or has verbally agreed to do so prior to WrestleMania.
“There have been reports going around regarding the status of Cesaro. Either he signed or verbally agreed to a new deal a few weeks ago. The gauntlet match that Adam Pearce won on Smackdown, the babyface star making spot of running through the field and then getting screwed at the end was an idea of Bryan, and his pick for the spot was Cesaro. However, since Cesaro hadn’t signed yet, it was switched to Nakamura, so Cesaro was going to be the face originally. But even if some thought Nakamura got over in that match, and without live fans there’s really no way to know, since he was a replacement, the plan wasn’t to follow up much which is why he’s basically in the same spot, only on the face side. He’s been told his role is to make new stars.”
As per the report, the star who many have vocally called for for a main event push will serve in the same role he currently occupies after being told that his sole role now is to make new stars. However, with Daniel Bryan a huge influence over creative on WWE’s blue brand and a massive fan and friend of the star, there’s still a chance we could see him receive some type of push in 2021.
